In the days around December 17 nearly one million Cubans make a pilgrimage to a small town called Rincón, near Santiago de las Vegas in the south of Havana.

At the altar of the local Catholic Church they thank the Saint Lazarus (San Lázaro) or his equivalent in the Afro-Cuban Santería religion Babalú Ayé for the fulfillment of their wishes.
